in college, i was an english major with an emphasis in creative writing. in order to graduate with honors, i was required to write a thesis, and i chose to write a collection of poetry for mine.

normally, this is not what i would choose to write. i am a terrible fiction writer, though, so it was poetry or a research-intensive paper, and i wanted the creative route. and, though the process, i found that i actually enjoyed it! writing poetry stretched my vocabulary and my structure when it comes to writing, and it forced me to think outside the box and break your typical grammar rules.

i don’t know if i will be writing more poetry or not. we’ll see. but to start out with, i thought i might as well share some of my favorites from my thesis collection (titled Mason Jar), and we’ll see where that takes me!
